Cloudleaf began in 2014 in a one-bedroom flat in Brunswick, with one stand mixer and an old recipe notebook. Twelve years later we are a team of five in a sunlit kitchen on Sturt Street — but the rules are still the same.
Local Victorian butter. Free-range eggs from a co-op in Yarra Valley. Real vanilla beans, not extract. And every cake decorated by the person who will hand it to you.
The lemon-elderflower cupcakes for my sister’s engagement were a quiet showstopper. Half the room asked where they were from before the speeches finished.
